In response to the rapid growth of stand-alone emergency department (ED) services, the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care (SCPC) is now offering certification for Freestanding ED Cardiac Care to facilities that want to implement best practices of care and guidelines for the treatment of individuals who present with the signs and symptoms of heart attacks or other cardiovascular concerns.

The FreeStanding ED Cardiac Care Certification offered by SCPC draws upon its well-established accreditation programs for the early assessment, diagnosis and treatment of Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS), Heart Failure (HF), and Atrial Fibrillation (AF). As the accreditation arm of the American College of Cardiology, SCPC helps hospitals and emergency treatment facilities create a culture of continuous process improvement – one that requires facilities to adopt, adhere to, and achieve best-in-class standards of care.

Founded in 1998, SCPC uses an operational model that combines evidence-based science, quality initiatives, industry guidelines and protocols, and clinical best practices to optimize the delivery of cardiovascular patient care. With nearly 20 years of focus on improving patient outcomes, SCPC is also dedicated to helping the facilities it serves attain their financial and organizational goals.

SCPC has granted more than 1,000 active accreditations for emergency care of suspected ACS, heart failure, and/or atrial fibrillation. While other organizations evaluate AMI care and rate a facility’s system once the diagnosis of MI is made, SCPC goes beyond the “numbers” to educate cardiovascular coordinators and multi-disciplinary teams in the areas of project management, process improvement, team building, first contact provider education, and data utilization. In short, SCPC provides an ongoing collegial experience and navigates each facility through the challenges associated with cardiac patient populations.
